What can cause bugs in my sputum test and my following symptoms ?????
What types of “bugs” – gram positive, gram negative, acid fast organisms? Did a sputum culture identify a predominant infecting organism? Most sputum samples are grossly contaminated with oral flora. The samples are coughed up through the mouth. Many of these tests are useless and do not reflect what may be happening in – or possibly infecting – the pulmonary bronchi or lower lung parenchyma. There are more bacteria in the mouth than any other part of the body. No professional physician I have known in the USA would ever say “a lot of bugs” in a sputum specimen report – but I suppose there may be some doctors somewhere who use this language. – – – None of the symptoms you describe are specific or can tell us which of many different diseases you may have. A compete medical history is needed along with a complete physicial examination plus a look at the the CBC report and a microsopic examination of the peripheral blood smear.
