What can cause a stabbing pain in the chest when breathing?

I can take fairly large amounts of air in, but when I inhale deeply, a sharp pain shoots through the right side of my chest. My chest is a little sore right now (where the pain occurs), and this has happened to me before. I’m just wondering what could make it happen. Other things that might be important: I’m an 18 year old male, generally of good health. I don’t smoke, and haven’t lived with smokers for years now.
