What can beneficiaries do if they are concerned that they might no longer automatically qualify for low-income subsidies? Will they still be eligible for Medicare Part D?
People who no longer automatically qualify for extra help in 2009 will retain their Medicare prescription drug coverage. However, they may not automatically qualify for the low-income subsidy. Instead, they must apply for low income subsidy assistance. They can do this through their local Social Security office, by calling 1-800-772-1213, or by visiting www.socialsecurity.gov/prescriptionhelp.
