What can be done to protect Londons ash trees?
The CFIA is the responsible government organization for controlling the insect. It was the CFIA’s vigilance that detected the EAB in London. To date, CFIA and the City of London have removed some infected trees from private and public property. These removals have been done by CFIA and the City for scientific reasons. The City has also injected a number of important trees in Victoria Park and in the Downtown area with TreeAzin, a natural insecticide derived from the oil of the Neem tree in order to protect them from the EAB. Residents can help to slow the spread of EAB by complying with the regulations and City guidelines detailed above. The best means of protecting individual trees is to remove infected trees and keep existing ash healthy by watering, fertilizing and regular maintenance done by certified Arborists. Be sure to also protect trees from mechanical damage caused by trimmers and lawnmowers.
