What can be done to encourage more women to consider careers in technology?
LB: I personally feel that more women are already turning to technology. It is highly recognised that the IT industry is a growing field and that as more and more systems become e-enabled, people are recognising that there is a role for IT in almost all professions! Today, IT is a part of most people’s lives in some way or another and there seems to be a never ending supply of opportunities for both men and women to generate an interest in technology. Even schoolchildren are getting a flavour of the IT world at school and this can definitely encourage many of them to pursue careers in technology – and this goes for girls too. In addition to this, there are so many more avenues for adults to return to higher education and with the vast variety of courses available at colleges and universities focused around the different areas of IT, a career change into this industry is possible for anyone.
