What can be done for dog dry skin?
I would have tried different dog food for a few months each before putting the dog on prednisone. Type this in your search engine: “predisone side effects in dogs” and that should take you to a good article about the problems that drug can cause. Other responders to your question have given good advise about supplements. I wouldn’t put any oils on the dog’s skin as it may get on your rug and walls.
I have 3 small dogs, and just rescued a Border Collie, who has serious skin issues! For the last couple of years, I have really gotten into using essential oils, and many other natural cures, both for dogs and humans.I mixed up-using a coffee grinder-a bottle of Brewers Yeast, 1 table spoon powdered zinc,2 table spoons Sea kelp, and 1 cup Flax-meal, mix it all up really well, I give the small ones 1/2 teaspoon every day, and the Collie gets 1/2 tablespoon, I mix them into a GOOD dry kibble, along with 1 teaspoon fat-free,sugar-free yogurt, and a couple tablespoons of fat-free beef or chicken broth-all 4 of them really love it, lick their bowls clean. I also add 1/2 teaspoon of coconut oil, every second day, or else canola oil. It takes abit of work grinding everything up, but once you have, it does last for awhile, depends on how many/type of dogs you have.I have also been making very healthy dog treats for the last 2 years, using no corn, flours, eggs, anything else that dogs get allerg
