What can be done about consolidation and undergrounding of utility wires?
Sometimes the City can work with the utility companies to consolidate wires aboveground so that there are fewer visible lines. However, the undergrounding of utility wires is often prohibitively expensive. If utilities are undergrounded, individual property owners can have as much as a $2,000 hookup charge. Because of the great expense involved in any utility work, priorities are set by the Council and decisions to proceed are handled through the City budget process.
