What can a student do with ones Internet access?
A student may use Internet access provided by Troy University for academic purposes. Of course, we realize that students like to surf the Web, chat, play games, and perform various other activities on the Internet. Academic use is given priority. Many non-academic uses are not prohibited but are also not supported by the Information Technology department and may be classified as low-priority. Activities that are in violation of the university’s terms of use and/or are illegal will be blocked. Peer-to-peer (P2P) file sharing services such as Kazaa, Morpheus, eDonkey, etc. are blocked. Information Technology makes every attempt to ensure that students have free access to the Internet. However, P2P services are often used to download illegal/copyright content including commercial software applications, music, and pornography. While it is recognized that there are some legitimate uses of these programs such is rarely the case. Ultimately, P2P networks pose a significant security risk to th
