What came first, the chicken or the chicken egg?
It depends on how you look at it. If a lizard lays an egg and a chicken hatches out, was the egg a chicken egg or a lizard egg? If it was a lizard egg, then the chicken came first. If the egg was a chicken egg, then the chicken egg came first. It depends on how you define ownership of the egg. The animal the chicken evolved from clearly laid an egg that the chicken hatched from before the chicken existed. However, wether that egg was a chicken egg or a pre-chicken egg is open to debate. I tend to believe that the egg would be referred to as a pre-chicken egg and the chicken itself came first.
