What business software is best for a new, small education non-profit?

I am on the board for a new non-profit scholarship fund. We need software to manage our donor information and accounts. I have looked at the QuickBooks non-profit edition, but have also been advised that any standard small business software would be just as useful. If anyone is willing to share their software experiences, I would appreciate it.
