What building tasks require permits?
The construction of porches and enclosures, decks, pools, additions, new construction, fences, signs (such as billboards), sheetrocking, alterations (if the size of doors or windows are readjusted), roofing, siding, asbestos abatement, lead hazard abatement, and demolition tasks all require building permits. A permit is not needed to paint the outside of a home unless it is in a historic district.
