From the start of the 2004 hound hunting season (24 April 2004), only pure Beagles and pure Bloodhounds are permitted for scent-trailing Sambar Deer. The use of Foxhounds and Harriers and cross-breeds for scent-trailing Sambar Deer in Victoria was phased-out under the Wildlife (Game) Regulations 2001. For more information on the permitted breeds, please select the link “Hound hunting” from the column at the left of the page, then select the link “Permitted breeds”.
