What breeds do the police force use?
I can promise you that no police force ANYWHERE uses “german shepards”. What IS used depends on the nation, the function that needs to be performed, and the knowledge of its operatives. But everywhere in the world, the breed most likely to be a PD is the German Shepherd Dog – because of what a boundary patrolling HERDing dog is required to do, there is almost nothing that a GSD can’t do. Next most likely are another couple of herding breeds: The Belgian Shepherd Dogs (especially the Malinois variety) and the Beaucerons of France, both favoured by the more macho cops. In addition to their mental equipment, those 3 breeds have the ideal combination of size (small enough for easy transport & to be carried if injured, nimble enough to leap walls, big enough & courageous enough to stop a human), with enough “nose ability” to follow scent-trails & detect hurriedly-hidden/discarded objects.
