Head to http://www.petfinder.com and find a shelter or rescue dog that needs a home. And be sure that the “left a length of time” isn’t more than 4 hours on a regular basis, or you’ll have to get a dog walker or get the dog into doggie daycare. And the family will have to figure out what’s going to happen to all these pets when you move out in 6 years – so be sure everyone is on the same page. gl.
