Any breed would be a suitable pet, just make sure you can devote the time and energy to taking care of your pet. Cats can get destructive if left ignored. You may also want to pick up a book or breeder magazine about cats to give you some insight to the different breeds. Some are more high energy than others. For example, a “rag doll” cat (long white hair, blue eyes, very calm, total lap cat) might be more your style if you want a lap cat, however, if you are a social, high energy person an Abyssinian or Siamese might be more your style.
