There are three health insurance reform bills being considered. The House bill has been introduced formally; one Senate bill is in draft and a second Senate bill is still being cobbled together. The Senate bills have no bill numbers attached to them. 1) The House bill, HR 3200, sometimes referred to as the “Tri-Committee” bill, has been considered by three House Committees with differing jurisdictions: the Ways and Means Committee, the Education and Labor Committee, and the Energy and Commerce Committee. 2) The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee has marked-up its bill. 3) The Senate Finance Committee bill has yet to be released. Q: Where are these bills in the legislative process? A: All three House committees of jurisdiction have completed their work on the bill. Each Committee amended parts of the bill.
