What Biblical Events Happened in Tel Be’er Sheva?
Bible readers would be amazed to realize that this place was mentioned in the first book of the Bible – Genesis. In Genesis 21, we can read about Abraham and Avimelek´s dispute over a well found in Be’er Sheva. The conflict was peacefully solved after Abraham offered Avimelek seven lambs. Abraham also dug a new well to further provide a resolution to the problem. When Abraham died, a dispute resurfaced over the same well. This was solved after Abraham´s son, Isaac, asked his servants to dig a new well. Isaac also built an altar in Be’er Sheva. Jacob, who was later renamed Israel, also became associated with Be’er Sheba after dreaming that Be’er Sheba will have a stairway to heaven. Believing that the vision was from God, he traveled to Egypt soon after this vision. The next round of stories happening in Be’er Sheba skipped generations for none of Israel´s sons had direct connection with the place.
