What benefits can a new widow get in England?
Kernow Lady is spot on. This happened to my mother in law at 57. She was a full time carer for her husband and fkced her own body up in the process. After the widow pension stopped she had to sign on to Job Seekers Allowance. She really should have gone onto Incapacity as she can barely walk up the stairs or for very long and has depression, but she refused to admit this to the GP, therefore was deemed able to work and had to sign on. (after 6 months of claiming, they sent her to a course in IT to try and get her skills up and get her a job. She had very little education, can’t stand for too long, can’t sit for too long, has no idea about computers, cash points or is good with money and can barely fill in a form for herself!) BUT this is what happens when you have to sign onto JSA if you refuse to claim sickness benefits but say you can’t work either!
