What benefits are provided by having BWC coverage?
A. BWC coverage first and foremost is required by law. There is further benefit to an employer having coverage if a work-related injury occurs to an employee, since the injured worker’s medical bills for treatment of the allowed conditions, temporary total disability benefits for lost wages, and other benefits will be paid directly by the BWC with no co-payment by either the employee or the employer. The injured worker cannot sue the employer for causing a work-related injury unless there has been an intentional tort. Further, an injured worker’s sole remedy in the event of a work-related injury is workers’ compensation benefits.
