What attempts are being made to resolve conflict in Afghanistan?
There is an ongoing effort to clean up the corruption within the Karsai government in Afghanistan (UN and the U.S. are spearheading this effort, with some cooperation from Karsai, whose own brother is involved in the corruption). In addition, some of the U.S. troops sent to Afghanistan by the Obama team are TRAINERS who are busy preparing the Afghan army and police to take over their own defense next year. While this training us underway, there is also a SURGE of sorts to contain and disrupt or destroy the most MILITANT (extremist) fringes of the Taliban, who were involved peripherally in the 9/11 attacks (they were the government of Afghanistan at the time and had recruited and trained the al-Q’aeda, so the UN removed them from power). Some of the Taliban are NOT extremists (just as in the Republican party not ALL members are cult-religious freaks—just the ones in control…same with the Taliban).
