What assets are subject to division as part of a divorce?

Any and all assets acquired during the course of your marriage are in the ‘pot’ to be divided pursuant to our laws of equitable distribution. As a general rule of thumb, assets acquired prior to marriage, gifts received from third parties, and inheritances are not subject to distribution. There are many exceptions to these general rules carved out by the Courts which need careful review.
