There is no proof of the existence of god Theists and religious apologists come up with various weak arguments, such as ‘evil exists so that we may strive against it, thus proving our goodness’ and ‘we have free will, evil is a choice’ or the really pathetic ‘it is all part of a great plan we just do not understand’. However, from a purely philosophical view, your argument is not sound, the presence of evil does not refute the existence of god. God could tolerate evil because he himself is evil, or because he is indifferent to the suffering of his creation. It is only an argument against the loving nature of god.
