What areas should tourists avoid when traveling to Atlanta?
During the day, just use common sense. Bad neighborhoods are fairly easy to spot in Atlanta (run-down houses, prostitutes and panhandlers prowling the streets, less well-maintained roads), so stick to the cleaner-looking areas with larger numbers of people. Peachtree Street is nice in some areas, but very ugly in others, for example. Just about anything in Midtown and Buckhead is perfectly safe during the day. At night, avoid city limits altogether if possible. If you must go somewhere to enjoy nightlife and/or fine dining, stick to Buckhead/North Fulton areas. North Fulton cities are pretty safe just about any time of day.
