What areas of the body can be treated?
Lasers can be used to treat unwanted discoloration due to surface blood vessels anywhere on the body. Small “spider veins” on the legs, as well as neck, face and body are all perfect examples of areas that can be treated. Smaller vessels, such as the telangectasias of the face, or even the diffuse redness caused by damaged blood vessels in rosacea can all be treated safely and effectively with the laser.
Almost all areas of the body can be treated. The most common treatment areas for women are the upper lip, chin, underarms, sideburns, and bikini area. For men, the most common treatment areas are the back, chest, and the back of the neck. The one area that cannot be treated is the portion of the eyelid beneath the brow arch. What results can I expect? It is important to know that the hair is destroyed only during the active phase of the growth cycle. As a result of these staggered growth cycles, several treatments will be necessary to achieve the best result. Results are best when there is a high contrast between the color of skin and hair, such as in people with coloring like Liv Tyler. However, the laser we use is effective on all skin color. All hair colors except for white can be treated. With each treatment you will see a significant reduction in the quantity and the thickness of the hair in the treated area. It depends on: -The desired degree of blood vessel reduction -Hormonal status -The area being treated -Medications, (prednisone can increase superficial blood vessel growth) Typically, one or tree treatments are needed for significant improvement of spider veins. Treatment can be done every 6 weeks on the face, and every 2-3 months on the legs. Cherry hemangiomas (red dots on the body) usually only require one or two treatments. Additional “touchup” treatments on small troublesome areas can be arranged at relatively low cost. There is no safety limit on the number of treatments a person can have.
Unwanted hair can be removed from nearly all areas of the body. The most common areas are the hairline, eyebrows, cheeks, sideburn area, upper and lower lip, chin, throat, neck, breasts, underarms, stomach, bikini line, feet and toes. It is recommended that the inside of the ears and nose should not be treated. Also, seek medical advice to determine whether hair in a mole can be treated safely.
