What areas of geoscience practice are subject to licensure?
By rule, the Board licenses three geoscience disciplines. These disciplines are: Geology, Geophysics, and Soil Science. Applicants must select one discipline in which to be licensed; however, licensees may practice any of the disciplines, provided they are qualified. • What are the key dates in the implementation of the licensure program? September 1, 2001: The Texas Geoscience Practice Act became effective. August 31, 2003: Last day for receipt, by the Board, of license applications under the “grandfathering” provision. For applications submitted after this date, applicants are required to pass a Board-approved examination. For Geology, the approved examination is through the National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG); for Soil Science, the Council of Soil Science Examiners (CSSE) exam has been approved. Additionally, a Texas Geophysics examination has been developed by TBPG for the discipline of Geophysics and it is available to take at the TBPG office in Austin. Septemb
