What area of vineyards is under irrigation?
Currently only 3ha, but we plan to put the entire Oude Nektar farm under a drip-irrigation system over the next few years. However, the purpose of this is not to increase production but–following with recent advances in viticultural research–to give us greater control managing the stress of the vine. During times of extreme heat or severe drought conditions, the vine metabolism shuts down and grape ripening ceases. By giving controlled amounts of water at key times during the season, ripening can be controlled and quality improved.
