Wessex did. It remained Anglo-Saxon and became the dominant force in England in a large part thanks to the work of Alfred the Great. It remained the dominant force in England until the time of Canute the Great in the 890’s but would regain its dominance over England after the death of Harthacanaute in 1042 when Edward the Confessor took the crown but lost it forever when William the Conquerer took the crown from Harold Godwinson.
