What Area Does The Desert Of Eastern Libya Cover?
The Libyan Desert is a part of the Sahara Desert. It is located in the eastern and northern regions of the Sahara Desert. This desert occupies eastern Libya, southwestern Egypt and northwestern Sudan. Extending around 1,100 km from west to east, and around 1,000 km from north to south it covers an area of around 1,100,000 square kilometers, and accounts for 90 percent of Libya’s population. The region is covered in sand and boulder plains and is home to the Senussi. There are several ridges and deep depressions, but the region is devoid of any streams or rivers. The region is extremely arid, with periods of no rainfall lasting for years. The area is just an open void with almost no habitation, roads or tracks. The region has a widely scattered group of oases located in unconnected shallow depressions. The Kufra group consists of the Tazerbo, Rebiana and Kufra oases.
