What are your top 5 best drummers of todays music and why?
Anytime you try to narrow musicians down to “X best” you’re bound to make tough decisions and leave out tens of qualified candidates. But here are a few to consider, all of which are countless “Best Drummer” award winners: Bill Bruford Idiosyncratic master of odd meter prog rock and contemporary post-bob jazz. Came to prominence with Yes (on the best albums of their entire catalog), left to break new barriers w/ King Crimson in two different incarnations – his work on early period KC like the USA live album is equally amazing as their later period Discipline work. Currently leads Bill Bruford’s Earthworks, sort of a Art Blakey Jazz Messengers project in acoustic complex meter jazz for the UK’s best young jazz talents.
