What are your plans for Doordarshan and All India Radio so that revenues receive a boost?
Prasar Bharati is a public broadcaster and hence revenues cannot be the sole criteria. Doordarshan had a good World Cup deal. We are looking at ways and means to improve the marketing of Doordarshan. We have a marketing committee comprising Mr Vijay Jindal and Mr Alyque Padamsee, and we hope that something good can be worked out shortly. I also feel that there should be more focus on creation of good content. I will also see that good quality children’s entertainment programmes are given their due exposure. What about second round of FM radio privatisation? The second round of privatisation of FM radio will be taken up after the first round is completed, that is after April. I am pleased that there is a renewed interest in radio. How will DD and AIR be used to encourage developmental activities? A good communication strategy will help in development and the public broadcaster can do this very effectively. However, these activities will be ideology and politics-neutral.
