What are you watching, World Cup soccer or Stanley Cup hockey? And which is better?
” We’re right in the middle of two great sporting events: the World Cup of Soccer, with its audience of billions around the planet, and, for Canadians, there’s not much bigger than the Stanley Cup hockey finals reaching their peak tomorrow night. Right now, these two games are battling for supremacy in Canada on TV screens across the country. On one hand: The Edmonton Oilers are writing a classic under-dog-triumphs story. Tomorrow, a win in Game Seven could be a dream come true for the team and its fans. On the other: we have the World Cup. Honking horns. Flag-waving fans, of all nationalities, closing down city streets. And the thrill of watching the physical poetry of what has been dubbed “the beautiful game”. I will come clean. I am casting my vote for neither side of this debate. I am in fact, a curling fan. Now I’m not here to win you over to this wonderful game, but suffice to say that like every good sport, it lays bare the human drama. That can of course be said for both hockey
