Send home a note with all the students, letting the parents in on the secret. enlist the help of another teacher from the team if needed. Let the parents know that you are planning a surprise and why. Ask them to call you if they would like to help. You can have a short party on Teacher appreciation day, or a new surprise each day. The parents may be interested in sending in treats, or sending in $1-$3 each to help with purchasing a gift. If you decide to purchase a gift, choose what you will purchase before you send out the note so that the parents will know what they are contributing money towards. Make sure to choose something that is within that $1-$3 per child. Let the children make cards for their teacher, prepare and send home the supplies for each child and ask that they bring back their prepared card on a certain date.
