What are WIMPS?

When you hear the word wimp, most people think of weak, skinny, and shy people. Very few would think of the word WIMPS meaning, Weakly Interacting Massive Particles. WIMPS are one of the newest topics of debate in the scientific world. They are being used as a solution to the dark matter problem and although scientists can not see dark matter, or nonbaryonic matter, they are still able to categorize it. WIMPS fall under the category of one of the many types of particles found in dark matter. Rather than being made up of protons, neutrons and electrons, astrophysicists see dark matter as being made up of WIMPS, MACHOS, or massive astronomical compact halo object. Really, the reason that this dark matter buisness came about is because of the missing matter that was found. So, with nothing else to attribute to that reason, they came up with dark matter. This submission was not accepted into the wiseGEEK Writing Contest because it does not meet the minimum length requirement.
