What are we saving the whales from?
People kill whales for their meat, people accidentally kill whales when they are fishing, people keep whales in captivity in horrible conditions, people spill oil and chemicals into the water where whales live which give them horrible diseases, people create sonic waves from warships and submarines which are really loud to whales and they end up beaching themselves because they become disoriented etc. If you’re genuinely interested, take a look at the work of the Whale and Dolphin conservation society and find out about how you can help the whales: http://www2.wdcs.org/hych/index.
