Improving hand hygiene is the primary goal of our ongoing “Be Patient Ready” campaign. The campaign was developed by the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) Nursing Quality Safety and Care Improvement Committee in partnership with the BWH Infection Control Department. The Be Patient Ready campaign supports: • Making it easy to wash your hands • Alcohol-based hand rubs (like Purell) and hand washing sinks are available throughout the hospital. • Making sure staff, visitors and patients know why it’s important to clean hands • Signs • Flyers • Video • Reminding all staff to clean their hands so they are ready to care for patients • Watching how well staff are doing with hand hygiene • Our goal for 2009 is 90 percent compliance or better.
