What are warblers?
My friend is a birdwatcher, and she gets all nutty about them! Warblers are migratory songbirds. They fly north to parts of North America in spring. They nest and raise their young in summer. Then they fly south — usually to Central or South America — in winter. Warblers are small — a bit smaller than a sparrow — and most types spend their time in trees. There they look for bugs to eat. There are several dozen species of warblers, and most have colorful names, like golden-winged warbler, chestnut-sided warbler, even yellow-rumped warbler! Why are so many birdwatchers nuts about them? It might be because most warblers are just passing through. They stop in places like Ohio (where I live) on their way to their breeding grounds a lot farther north. If youre a warbler fan like your friend, you dont want to miss them in the short time theyre here. People also like them for their beauty. Warblers wear bright colors: yellows, greens, blues, even orange. Seeing a flame-orange male Blackbur
