What are ushers looking for when they are patrolling?
In the actual theatre house where the movie is taking place, we look at several things. The first thing we take note of is the atmospheric conditions of the theatre. Is it too hot or too cold? Is the sound too loud or too soft? Did the lights turn off when they were suppose to? Things like that. Then when we climb up those steps and walk in front of the movie screen, we are looking at you guys. Are you watching the movie or sending a text? If it’s a rated R film, do you look like you are under the legal age to view it? Are those college students that are cuddling in the back actually cuddling or having sex in public? Once at the top of the stairs, we look at the movie itself. Is it in focus? Is the film housed properly? Did the curtains come down where they are suppose to be for the film’s aspect ratio? I, personally, use this position as the best place to see who may be trying to pirate the film, but I can only speak for myself and not for the rest of the ushers I work with. On our wa
