What are USF charges and am I exempt from them?

The Universal Service Fund (USF) was mandated by the FCC to ensure that all telecommunications services contribute to federal universal service in a nondiscriminatory manner. The rates are adjusted quarterly by the FCC. The USF contribution factor is currently: Universal Service Contribution Factor – First Quarter 2009 – 0.095 (9.5%) Please visit the following link for more information on the Federal USF contribution factor. http://www.fcc.gov/omd/contribution-factor.html USF charges apply and will be automatically assessed only for: • Outbound calls originated in the USA (geolocation determined from the IP address in the SIP contact header with a fallback to the signaling IP address). • Toll Free calls originated in the USA from the PSTN. Common carriers are exempt from USF charges. If you are a common carrier please contact us for an exemption certificate. International (non-USA) customers are automatically exempt from these charges.
