Urodynamics represent a series of test which evaluate the ability of the bladder to store and empty urine. The tests measure bladder sensation, bladder pressure, and bladder volume. In addition, bladder support and urethral sphincter activity are evaluated as well. Urodynamic testing is an outpatient procedure which lasts approximately 45 minutes. Bladder pressure is measured during the test by filling the bladder through a small catheter. There is no anesthesia and active patient participation is required throughout the test. The patient should report any urges to urinate when the bladder is being filled. The patient may also be asked to cough and to bear down to evaluate for any urinary leakage. After completing the test, the patient will void. Patients will report to Urology Associates of Southern Delaware, P.A., Milford office or to the Radiology Department at Beebe Medical Center for the test.
