What are uniqnames and UMICH Kerberos passwords?
To use many U-M computing services, you need to enter your uniqname (which identifies you) and your UMICH Kerberos password (which authorizes and authenticates you). A uniqname is like a user ID or user name and is part of your e-mail address. You can tell anyone your uniqname. Your UMICH Kerberos password (also known as simply UMICH or Kerberos) proves you are who you say you are. NEVER tell anyone your UMICH Kerberos password not even your parents, best friend, or computer support personnel. Doing so would put all of your personal information stored within the U-M computing environment at risk. Your UMICH Kerberos password is your key to: • e-mail services provided by Information and Technology Services (ITS), including mail.umich.edu • connecting to the U-M computing environment when you are not on campus • accessing your personal information in Wolverine Access • making changes in your U-M Online Directory (UMOD) entry Find out how to select a safe UMICH Kerberos password.
