Underinsured Motorist (UIM) claims are made by injured parties against their own insurance companies for injuries resulting from the negligent driving of the driver of a car with insurance, but with inadequate coverage for the injuries. This coverage protects the insured, (or relatives residing in the same household), in the event they are injured as a result of the negligence of another motorist who lacks sufficient insurance. This type of coverage is for personal injuries only. It does not cover property damage to the vehicle or any other property. In Pennsylvania UIM coverage is optional, but we strongly recommend that you maintain this coverage on your policy.
