Pelagic fish are fish that live in the water column of coastal ocean waters, but not on the bottom of the sea. These fish are often migratory forage fish, like herring, anchovies, capelin and menhaden. Examples of larger pelagic fish which predate the forage fish are billfish, tuna and oceanic sharks.
