What are transformers, and how do they work?
A transformer is a device that transfers electrical energy from one circuit to another which, in turn, distributes energy to your home or business. When electricity moves from a power plant it is put into a very high voltage to be able to travel long distances. In order for your home or business to use the electricity, it has to be at a lower voltage, so it is “stepped-down” using a transformer.
