What are totalitarian governments?
Totalitarian governments are dictatorships. Wikipedia describes it as: “Totalitarianism is a concept used in political science that describes a state that regulates nearly every aspect of public and private sectors. Totalitarian regimes or movements maintain themselves in political power by means of secret police, propaganda disseminated through the state-controlled mass media, personality cults, regulation and restriction of free discussion and criticism, single-party states, the use of mass surveillance, and widespread use of terror tactics.” Now, democratic governments have these characteristics too, but its very subtle and low key. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a dictatorship, providing that it is run by a benevolent dictator. Power tends to corrupt, however. Totalitarian governments are governments that tightly control almost every aspect of the lives of citizens. Things like information and communication are especially tightly controlled. In both China and North Korea, there is a radio broadcast produced by the government that is found playing in every home 24 hours a day, 7 days/week. The special receivers cannot be turned off or muted; the volume can be turned down low but that is it. Often in a totalitarian regime, voices of dissent against the government are stamped out whenever they can be found. Citizens have fewer choices when it comes to just about everything…where they may live, how they may worship (if they are allowed to worship at all), whether or not they can divorce, how many children they may have, whether or not they are allowed to accumulate wealth or property. Processes of the government are not transparent and elections are rarely fair as real opposition candidates rarely get a chance to run. There are so many rules a
In a Totalitarian Government, the govt. controls everything. People do not vote and choose their government. Everyone is treated as equal, every person living under Totalitarian govt. has a job, everyone gets paid equally and everyone gets food equally. There is no rich or poor. There is no crime like democratic countries, like the U.S. Every business is owned by government in a Total govt.
