What are Torrents?
Torrents are specialized files utilized in peer-to-peer (P2P) network environments. P2P is a network of personal computers that communicate with one another by running proprietary P2P software. The first P2P software designed to utilize torrents was BitTorrent by Bram Cohen. Other torrent clients have followed. Torrents are distinguished by a unique transfer process. To compare how torrents download to standard files, let’s first consider how normal files download off the Internet. At any given website a user might click on a file to transfer it to his or her computer. Upon clicking on the file, the website’s server starts sending the file to the visitor in discreet data packets. These packets travel various routes to reach the user’s computer and are reconstructed upon receipt to complete the file transfer. It’s actually pretty cool technology that really just boils down to another way to download files. So really, you just use .torrent files to download other files. When you download a file using BitTorrent, the file is actually broken up into chunks, that you BitTorrent client program then downloads and reassembled into the final file as the pieces arrive. To over-simplify, what makes it interesting are two things: The different chunks you download can all be coming from different machines. A BitTorrent client will connect to many other BitTorrent clients and download several chunks at once, in random order. In the long run this makes the protocol fairly efficient, and very nicely scalable – the more BitTorrent clients that are serving up a given file, the faster other client

Torrents are P2P connections. if you are downloading, lets say a game (do not, if you get cought u might go to jail) there must be other people that have downloaded it to give it to you say if i downloaded it, the only way u will get it if i leave on my program on and let u downloaded it from me.
