What are those Tiny Bright Red Bugs?
Clover mites are little red arachnids (the same family as spiders) that are common throughout the U.S.. They are very tiny – about the size of a poppy seed and bright red. Clover mites are vegetarians, eating plants, trees, mold and even algae. In nature they nest and lay eggs under the bark on trees and other plants. They like to live close to and even on their food source. With man made structures that food source can be the siding on your house and/or the mold and mildew growing on it. They thrive around homes and other warm structures. These mites become a nuisance during their spring and fall migrations, swarming out by the hundreds or even thousands, they can cover the side of a home and be crawling inside.
