Thomas Jefferson is dead and has been for a while now so I can’t attest to his current political beliefs, in the past Thomas Jefferson believed ideally in a Utopian society, in which everyone planted, grew crops, bartered, etc. He also new that this was an unrealistic view. He was conflicted in many ways, He believed in minimal government but saw it grow, He was fundamentally against slavery but owned slaves, He valued a simple, honest, hard working, industrious, farm lifestyle, but was materialistic, a lover of fine things and fine wines and fine books. He also understood foreign policy, perhaps more than any other American alive at the time. He was a Deist and was an avid reader throughout his life and had probably the most extensive private library in the country at the time.
