What are the warning signs of a biological/chemical attack?
Immediately protect breathing airways (distance yourself from contamination source, cover mouth and nose with handkerchief, clothing, etc.). Leave the area of attack immediately and move outside and upwind from the source of attack. If evacuation to the outside is not possible, move occupants upwards to an interior room on a higher floor since many agents are heavier than air. Measures for shelter in place should be taken (see below). Cover bare arms and legs and make sure any cuts or abrasions are covered or bandaged. If splashed with an agent, immediately wash it off using warm soapy water. Shower with soap and water as soon as possible. If water is not available, talcum powder or flour may be used to decontaminate liquid agents. Sprinkle liberally over affected skin area, wait 30 seconds and brush off with a rag.
