What are the Viable Alternatives to Salt Water Pools?
The green movement has lead pool owners to move away from salt water pools and chlorine disinfection. Ultraviolet pool sanitation is a step in the right direction. With UV disinfection, less is more. UV is fully compatible with salt water pools, so the two are sometimes used together. Chlorine levels can be reduced to just 0.5 ppm – that’s the chlorine level found in drinking water. Ultraviolet disinfection was first introduced on commercial swimming pools, where water quality is critical. Thanks to the use of UV at the Beijing games, the use of ultraviolet pool systems is growing. By 2014, it is expected that the majority of new pools will rely on UV as the primary sanitizer.
