What are the various User perspective (Use Case) merits / demerits of Mobile Phone Navigation – over – Personal Navigation Devices?

Here is my list: 1) Personal Navigation Device (PND) is one more thing to carry, while phone is with me all the time, anyway. Advantage: phone. 2) PND has built-in maps and routing algorithms, while phone needs to talk with server, somewhere, meaning it’s useful when no network connection exists. Advantage: PND. 3) So far, most PNDs have voice readout of routing instructions, while most phones don’t. Advantage: PND, for now. 4) The upper end PNDs have street names in the routing, rather than “turn right at next street”. Advantage: PND, for now. 5) Phone nav systems can be updated fairly easily (e.g., iPhone) over the cellular network, where PNDs must be plugged into a computer, updates downloaded, etc. Advantage: phones for ease of use. 6) Phone nav systems are more likely to include traffic information as the servers can get to it easily, while PNDs either don’t, or must include pay-for-service and external adapters. Advantage: phone. The choice depends on your personal needs and want
